IN THE RACKROOM is the new side project of Pierre Granoux/LAGE EGAL, based in his former artist studio, today his storage room. Each selected artist is invited to work in this rack room and to question "the relationship between where art is made and where art is displayed"*. The creative act will be documented and displayed as an Instagram takeover at @intherackroom.
'From Scratch' presents a new series of paintings and sculptures by Ties Ten Bosch. The works are not presented as independent works of art, but has to be experienced by the viewer as one big installation with a statement as a whole. We invite you to come and see this show in real life, because it will reveal more than there is to see on first notice.
"A good work of art makes you want to look, look again, and keep on looking. Until you have found an answer to its enigma, one must persist in looking. That is it's primary function."
The work of Ties Ten Bosch (’s-Hertogenbosch, 1977) can be defined as meta-art, or even better, the artist can be described as a meta-artist. With his work, Ties not only researches the form of art and the process of making it, but also the position of the artist within our society. Overwhelmed by the amount of subjects to choose from in the world, he chooses to start with that what is closest: the art itself.
‘From scratch’ is a continuation of an exhibition by the artist earlier this year in Rotterdam called ‘Sweet nothing’. The titles can be taken almost literately here. Where ‘Sweet nothing' tried to bring back the art to a complete minimum, ‘From scratch’ starts to build up from this point again. The works show the artists struggle and effort to create image out of nothing and he wants his viewers to follow this example. The works do not easily reveal their content and demand a certain effort from the viewer in order to discover that what is present. (ttb) *BOD, Studio and Cube
