- March 8, 2012, 8 pm : "Derive and Occupy: Situationisms influence on contemporary protest" by Jeni Fulton.
"All space is occupied by the enemy. We are living under a permanent curfew. Not just the cops – the geometry." Raoul Vanegeim. The 2011 Occupy protests mark, for many, the most important social justice movement of our present moment. Re-occupying public space and contesting actions of public order and control are central elements, as public space is increasingly privatised. The talk will investigate the influence of Situationist ideas on the Occupy movements, and demonstrate their continuing relevance.
Jeni Fulton is a writer and art critic living and working in Berlin. Originally from Britain, she is currently working on her PhD dissertation on the topic of values and valuation in contemporary art.
